- Eligibility: This festival is open to entrants up to age 18, including students of non-TMTA members. Students must have studied with their teacher for at least one semester prior to the date of the event. Students must perform in their level recital at the assigned time.
- Music Selection & Assignment: Teachers are responsible for entering students at an appropriate level. Assign music from the official repertoire list below. Music must be memorized. Repeats should not be taken in longer works, except for Da Capo forms. In short pieces, repeats may be taken for balance or to complete the form. For levels 1-6, assign repertoire no earlier than August 1 of the academic year (ex: August 2024 for the Spring 2025 festival). For levels 7-12, assign repertoire no earlier than May 1 of the previous year (ex: May 2024 for the Spring 2025 festival). Students must provide an unmarked score of any reputable edition for the judge at check-in. No illegal photocopies are allowed. Include measure numbers, and mark the starting page. Teacher name may not appear on the score.
- Festival Procedures: Students must arrive at the check-in table at least 15 minutes prior to their recital. A judge’s copy of the score is required at check in (see rule 2). Students will sit in performance order, and remain in the hall for the duration of the recital. Performances are open to the public. No videos or photography in the hall. A judge will evaluate every performer, and one ‘Performer of Merit’ will be named at the conclusion of each recital.
- Dress Code: Performers’ attire should be elevated to suit the occasion, without distracting from the performance. Appropriate choices include collared shirts, blouses, belted dress pants, dresses or skirts with knee-length or longer hem, and dress shoes that allow for pedaling. Please, no jeans, athletic wear, cut-outs, or plunging necklines.
- Judging and Prizes: All students receive a judge’s comment sheet including a grade of Superior, Excellent, Good or Fair; and a gold, silver, or bronze medal. The judge will also choose one ‘Performer of Merit’ per level to receive a prize of $25. Teachers must pick up medals and comment sheets by the end of the festival day.
- Entrance Fee: The entrance fee is $25 per student for TMTA members, and $30 for students of non-members. Entrance fees are non-refundable. Teachers are responsible for online registration and payment. Please make one payment per studio. Preferred payment method is the PayPal link on the registration form. If sending a paper check, allow a generous amount of lead time in advance of the deadline. Checks may be sent to Maggie Cass at: 2328 Foxboro Way, Tallahassee, FL 32309
- Disclaimers: Teachers are responsible for ensuring parents and students understand the rules. Judge decisions are final and may not be discussed or disputed with the judge. Complaints should be reported through the teacher to the festival chairman. The festival is organized by recital level, and individual rescheduling requests cannot be honored.
